Things to know before renting an air compressor – Different types of compressed air dryers

Compressed air tools are powerful and versatile and can have several advantages in several constructing applications. You can use compressed air tools in several conditions, such as if there is water on the ground or you are dealing with some inflammable kinds of stuff without the chances of fire or explosions. Compressed air tools can be costly, but you can always rent them at air compressor rental stores. But before renting and compressed air tool, you need to have some information about it.

Rotary screw

Most of the compressed air tools use the rotary screw design, especially when they are working for construction applications. In this design, two screws are interlocked side by side; narrowing the space for the air chamber to pressurize the air. Even if you are working with multiple tools, these tools can provide the best capacity. The power of the rotary screw compressors is too high that they don’t even have to use the storage tanks. Compressed air tools are designed for undisputed work and the airflow can alter the speed according to the need.

Piston

If your work requires less air than instead of a rotary screw air compressor, you can go for a piston air compressor. While some of them can be powered with diesel and gasoline, some can be run through electricity. In the piston air compressor, piston is used to pressurize the air and keep it stored into large air tanks. Piston air compressor is used to supply air pressure to nail guns, spray paints and even to the much smaller sized wrenches.
The only difference between rotary screw air compressor and piston air compressor is that the piston air compressor may not provide you the best service if it’s running low and will take some time to get recharged.

The right size

When you are renting or buying compressed air tools, you should be aware of the size, which can be measured either by cubic feet per minute or pounds per square inch. Talk to the dealer about your requirement and get the perfect air compressor tools as if you get the smaller number, you might not get the job done and if you buy a much higher number, you are just wasting money.

Hoses
When you are renting a compressed air tool, make sure the hoses are in perfect condition and can withstand the pressure or temperature you need. Also, make sure that the length and the diameter of the hose is compatible with your needs, otherwise, you will lose air pressure. As the hoses are laid on the ground, stepped on and run over by heavy trucks, you need to the condition daily to avoid any accidents at work site.

Safety

Mostly all the accidents happen due to the loose connectivity or leakage on the connection between the hose and the compressor. If there is any loose end, it can end up very badly, causing harm to you and your workers.

Filters

It’s mandatory that the air compressor tools are free of any water, so you must check the air filter and the water separator precisely before buying. Air will contain dust, dirt particles, oil and water and these are enough to damage the entire system, so check them very carefully before renting or buying.

Different types of compressed air dryers

Typically the air dryers can be parted into three types,

  • Refrigerated compressed air dryer, which can actively remove the condensation
  • Desiccant air dryer, which absorb water vapor from the air
  • Membrane air dryer, which part water from the concept of migration
